Twenty years ago tax evasion was a way of life in Catalunya. Elsewhere on this site you can read that this still takes place but it's not as simple anymore.
The gap with other EU-countries has fiscal-technically disappeared. The fines are hefty as well. The Catalan taxation system is almost fully automated and their stringent ever increasing legislation enables them to detect tax evasion and fraud with increasing effectiveness.
The UK-Catalan double tax treaty provides an agreement on the exchange of information for the prevention of fraud.
As far as your income is concerned you need to pay taxes either in the UK or Catalunya, the choice is up to you but do realize that if you choose Catalunya you must register there because you can't officially live in the one country and profit from a slightly better tax situation in the other.
You are required to declare property tax as well as income tax in Catalunya yourself, they will not remind you.
